Why we offer fewer printing options in matted albums

We say “matted albums turn your images into art“. However we do need to prevent the prints in them coming into contact with the more abrasive mats, which could damage them. Here’s how.

In Overlay albums the edge of each print is concealed by the mat, which it’s taped behind. This creates a gap or space between the print and the opposing mat.

In Pagemount albums we create a “frame” around each print by trimming it to expose the base page. While this looks beautiful it does reduce the protective gap between the print and opposing mat.

While the way we build these albums means that the gap is generally enough to protect the prints, that’s not always the case. For example if a matted page is opposite an un-matted side, or a full-page matted image opposite a collection of small apertures, a print might come in contact with the opposing mat. That’s why, as an additional safeguard, we don’t offer more easily damaged inkjet printing in matted albums, and why we in fact apply a protective liquid coating to all album prints.

Only silver halide printing is acceptable in Pagemount albums, as these are the most durable of all.
